Rebecca Vitsmun and her 19 month old son are fortunate to be alive. Vitsmun is a survivor of the tornado in Moore, Oklahoma, and she is an atheist. Here is a snippet from an article in which she is interviewed by a famed CNN reporter, Wolf Blitzer...
"We're happy you're here. You guys did a great job," Blitzer said to Rebecca Vitsmun, who escaped from her house with her 19-month-old son right before the twister tore through it. "You've gotta thank the Lord, right? Do you thank the Lord for that split-second decision?"
Vitsmun hesitates for a moment and smiles. "I -- I'm actually an atheist," she said, laughing off the awkward moment.
"You are. All right. But you made the right call," Blitzer said.
"We are here, and I don't blame anyone for thanking the Lord," Vitsmun said.
The article went on to say that there has been a 13% drop in "religiosity" between 2005 and 2012. I want to make a couple of observations about this story.
Observation number one, Rebecca Vitsmun laughed when she mentioned that she is an atheist. I hope that Rebecca has a change of heart about God particularly the Son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ. It's amazing to me that anyone could laugh off a narrow brush with death. Rebecca dodged death this time but she will eventually be capture by the cold grasp of what the Bible calls an enemy. The Scriptures tell us in Hebrews 9:27 that it is "appointed" unto men once to die. Rebecca will one day die and if she has not changed her mind about Jesus and not placed her faith in what he did to rescue her from hell and death then she will have to pay for her decision for the rest of eternity. I am praying that Ms. Vitsmun comes to Christ.
Observation number two, America has had a 13% reduction in "religiosity". Religiosity - are you serious? That is precisely what is wrong with America. What is religiosity? We don't need religiosity, we need Jesus! The Scriptures go on to tell us in Acts chapter 4 that there is one name given among men whereby ye must be saved and that name is Jesus. America has become the modern day Sodom and Gomorrah and judgement is already beginning for our country. We should not be laughing after a national calamity like Moore, Oklahoma, but we should be weeping over our sin and hardness of heart toward the one true God.
Dear Reader, have you been to Jesus for His forgiveness and have you freely received the gift of eternal life that He is longing to give you? Come to Christ now!
So, your god punishes someone for eternity for holding a mistaken opinion?
ReplyDeleteWhat a monster.
I didn't write the book and I don't make apologies for God. The choice is up to you.

ReplyDeleteYou do realize that there are several different organized religions, do you not? What makes Christianity the "right" one? People are killed every day because of closed minded arrogant wing nuts such as yourself. If only all christians could be as nonjudgmental as Rebecca. We would live in a much less violent world
ReplyDeleteBrian, you just called Rebecca a Christian. She would be offended by your comment.

ReplyDelete"I didn't write the book and I don't make apologies for God. The choice is up to you." Yeah a bronze age book that advocates immorality, slavery, murder and rape. You can have that while your at it make sure you follow it to the letter (Exodus 21:20-21). As you do not want to disappoint jesus by not following the old testament to the letter (Matthew 5:18-19)
Brian, you get pretty worked up over a book you don't believe in. A typical liberal, where is the tolerance for my beliefs. Hypocrite.
ReplyDeleteAnother atheist in Moore, Oklahoma ... checking in to see what the faithful are saying about our Rebecca. Have a good day!

What a monster.
I want to respond to this. If people give the Bible a fair look, then you will see that Brain's statement is very incorrect. According to the Bible, He does not punish people for thinking the world is flat or for believing that God may have used evolution. But when that opinion is to reject humility and repentance, the one thing that humanity needs the most, to be saved, that is why people are condemned, not for simply believing a mistake. But consider this too: if i believe that i can walk off a bridge and fly, is it fair that i would die, falling to my death? yep. that's life... if i'm stupid enuf to do it. here's the truth, anyone who rejects a free gift of a loving God and despised His goodness, that's more than a mistaken opinion.. that is just stupid. but please understand, i don't mean that as any insult, because every human being on this planet is stupid to some degree and has done many stupid things in their life. i don't mean calling anyone stupid as an insult, i'm only calling stupid for what stupid is, like if i chose to jump off a bridge to my death. The "monster" is not the God of the Bible, but the monsters are those who reject love that would sacrifice His own life to save us from that destruction. if we reject that act to save us, then we are *choosing* our own destruction. people choose hell, not God. that Bible which people criticize states that God made hell for demons, not people. but yes, people can choose to go there too. it's freedom, not "God sending people to hell." God just gave that choice to us, when He made the way for us to accept salvation if we want, or to accept condemnation if we choose that. it's simple people. and yes, He's a very loving God. His single most identifying attribute is love.
Thanks Humilulo.
ReplyDeleteWhat was she supposed to be thanking the Lord for? For sending tornado to that killed schoolchildren? A strange god that sends a tornado, kills children and then expects the survivors to thank him for not killing them also!
ReplyDeleteHumilulo,
ReplyDeleteI don't see how you can say that a disbelief in the existence of God is a rejection of humility and repentance. In your opinion, are such things honestly mutually exclusive? Does not believing in God automatically make you incapable of possessing these qualities?
And frankly, your "'jumping off a bridge" comparison really doesn't make any sense at all. It would only make sense if there was a judgemental, bearded fascist forcing everyone to choose whether or not to jump off a bridge. Atheism isn't the choice to condemn oneself to hell; it's the refusal to believe that there is a choice between salvation and damnation. She isn't choosing to reject God's love, she's choosing to believe that there is no God offering us such love. And for that you truly think she deserves to burn in hell for eternity?
In closing; any being that offers an entire race the choice between Heaven or Hell, and punishes anyone that doesn't believe in either with endless firey torment - is a monster in my book.
Also, the atheist saying -
ReplyDelete"We are here, and I don't blame anyone for thanking the Lord,"
is showing a good deal more humility than the Christian saying -
"Rebecca will one day die and if she has not changed her mind about Jesus and not placed her faith in what he did to rescue her from hell and death then she will have to pay for her decision for the rest of eternity."
